1. What our notice covers
© 2026 Life for God — original authored materials and copyrightable contributions to our editions, to the extent of the rights we hold. This notice does not automatically cover every part of every book and does not claim exclusive rights in Scripture, public-domain material or works belonging to others.
Life for God is the project name and publishing designation. Authorship, translator, source and specific terms are identified in About this edition, the book’s publication details or the material itself. Guest authors and other rights holders retain their rights; publication on this site does not itself transfer them to the project.
This page explains the scope of our copyright claims. It does not introduce a new blanket licence or revoke permissions already stated for a particular material.
2. Contributions that may be protected
Protection may apply to original works of human authorship whose rights belong to the project or the respective authors: new translations, prefaces, introductory essays, commentary, explanations, sermons and other original writing. For a translation, protection depends on the translator’s copyrightable creative contribution; the label “new translation” alone does not determine its legal status.
In a compilation or research edition, protection may cover original creative selection, coordination and arrangement, authored comparisons and explanations, and creative editorial modifications. It concerns the particular expression and original structure, rather than facts, ideas, research methods or every source included in the edition.
Original design elements, illustrations, recordings and software have their own legal status. Their authorship and licences are considered separately; inclusion in a book or on the site does not make every such element Life for God’s property.
3. Example: the Gospels and research volumes
We do not claim copyright in the ancient Gospel text, biblical events, sayings as historical source material or the canonical order of books. Historical translations and source texts in the public domain remain available for independent reuse.
In our edition The New Testament and the Sayings of Jesus, protection may apply to original prefaces and commentary, copyrightable new translations and the creative arrangement of research material. This does not give us exclusive rights in comparing the Gospels, parallel passages, verse numbering or other general research methods.
A modern Bible translation, scholarly edition of an ancient text, critical apparatus or manuscript image may have separate restrictions. Check the particular source and version you are using.
4. Historical books and the public domain
When we publish a public-domain historical original or translation, its author and translator remain credited as its creators. We do not present an old translation as a new Life for God translation. Our own additions are identified separately.
Digitisation, correction of OCR errors and typographical mistakes, technical typesetting or mechanical spelling modernisation do not by themselves give us exclusive rights in the underlying work. A new PDF date or copyright symbol does not renew expired rights in an old text.
Public-domain status, an open licence and permission merely to read are different bases for use. Copyright terms vary by country. An edition’s statement that public-domain status was assessed for the United States is not confirmation of that status in every country.
5. Materials prepared with AI assistance
Digital tools and artificial intelligence may assist preparation. Our copyright notice covers only contributions protected by applicable law. Using AI does not itself prevent protection of human-authored text, creative revisions or original selection and arrangement.
Under the current U.S. approach, entirely AI-generated content without sufficient human authorship is not protected by copyright; prompts alone are insufficient. We do not claim exclusive copyright in such content merely because we paid for its creation, checked it or published it. The extent of copyrightable human contribution is assessed for each work.
6. Reading, quotation and republication
Reading open books and downloading available PDFs on this site are free. Being able to download a file does not grant a blanket licence to republish, adapt or sell every part of it. Check the Terms of Use and the permission or licence for the particular edition.
Public-domain material may be reused without our permission under applicable law. For openly licensed material, follow its licence, including attribution where required. Our editorial work does not restrict your rights to independently reuse the public-domain source text.
Protected materials are subject to the rights holder’s permissions and statutory exceptions, including lawful quotation and fair use where applicable. Attribution and a link do not by themselves replace required permission. If you wish to reproduce our complete edition or use a protected translation or addition and cannot find a suitable permission, contact the editors and describe your intended use.
Your own notes, sermons and recordings in your account retain their legal status. Using the service does not transfer your rights to Life for God; processing and agreed publication are addressed in the Terms of Use.
7. Rights and source enquiries
If you believe material infringes your rights, or find an error in authorship, translator credit or sourcing, use the editorial contact form. Identify the book or page, exact link, relevant passage and basis of your enquiry. Include an email if you would like a reply.
